Do your handmade sweaters end up at the back of your wardrobe?

There’s a fit issue going on that makers can’t put their finger on. It’s why so many handmade garments end up unworn. The Perfect Fit Framework teaches you exactly what it is, and, more importantly, how to fix it.

The complete course to modifying crochet patterns, for makers who are frustrated with guessing
– and ready to turn EVERY crochet project into their favourite wardrobe staple!

You’re already following the pattern’s instructions correctly.
It’s just that the instructions were never written with your body in mind.

You’ve followed the patterns. You’ve counted every stitch. You’ve taken the time to swatch and match the gauge. And you’ve picked the size that matches your bust measurement. And the finished garment somehow still doesn’t look the same on you as it does on the designer.

And so you go searching for the “perfect pattern”, or wondering if maybe you’re just not skilled enough yet. Maybe your yarn choice was wrong. Maybe handmade clothes just aren’t worth it. Maybe your body shape is the problem.

But what’s really going on is that crochet patterns are written for imaginary bodies. Not real ones.

What most makers have probably already tried

  • Sizing up in the pattern (which only gives you a bigger rectangle, not a better fit)
  • Obsessively checking your gauge, or alternatively, experimenting with different hook sizes
  • Resigning yourself to constantly adjusting or uncomfortably tugging on the finished garment
  • Assuming you must not be ‘advanced enough’ to make garments properly
  • Following the designer’s modification suggestions in the pattern, but not being 100% sure if you actually need them
  • Endlessly scrolling Ravelry for a different pattern that might work better

And finally get the answers you’ve been looking for

  • Learn to spot the invisible size assumptions inside every pattern (before they sabotage your project)
  • Tell the difference between modifications and customisations so you can recognise what you need to adjust, and where
  • Modify the bust, waist, and hips of crochet patterns you already own without re-writing the entire thing
  • Replace guessing and frogging with a repeatable framework
  • Modify any crochet pattern with confidence, from indie designers to big magazines
  • “I’m so glad I made this investment. I have 3 sweaters I love but rarely wear because of fit issues and now I believe I can remake them to fit.”

The Perfect Fit Crochet Framework

Understand why your last garment didn’t fit (and why it was never your fault). A clear breakdown of how standard size charts are written and why they assume a body shape that probably doesn’t match yours.

You’ll discover what’s really going on with ‘averages’, how they’re decided, and learn how to take and use your own measurements with confidence.

Charts, schematics, construction notes, and stitch multiples. By the end of this module you’ll be able to look at any new pattern and tell whether it’s likely to fit your body before you start, and where it’s likely to need adjusting if it doesn’t.

This module shows you the difference between a modification and a customisation; where and why to put the designer’s suggestions to work.

You’ll learn the three critical points where shaping makes the biggest impact, and how to read a pattern’s construction so you always know which ones to use.

Discover how to shape a neckline so it sits properly on your shoulders.

Add Invisible Short Row shaping that allows your garments to move as you do, without gaps or confusing instructions.

And the simple low-math adjustments I use the most often, and when to apply them.

By the end, you won’t just know WHAT to change – you’ll know HOW and WHY to change it, without rewriting every pattern.

Meet Your Teacher, Michelle

Like so many makers, I started crocheting garments because I wanted clothes that actually fit me.
After years of disappointment with store-bought clothing, I assumed handmade was the answer. Until I followed every pattern “correctly,” only to discover my crochet clothes still didn’t fit properly either.

I picked the right size for my bust, made sure my gauge was spot on, and followed every instruction to the letter. Nothing fit the way I was hoping.
So I stopped trying to make garments for myself altogether.
I settled for one-size-fits-all shawls or ponchos, believing that my body must just be too disproportionately-shaped for things to ever fit right. Sound familiar?

What I didn’t realise then, and what I now teach inside The Perfect Fit Framework™, is that my body shape is just fine the way it is.
It was the invisible sizing assumptions built into the foundation of most patterns (the size charts) that was where the problem was hiding. And once I understood that, my garments started looking the way I’d imagined them fitting all along.

I’ve spent more than a decade in the crochet industry. I’ve designed patterns, tech edited for major publications, and mentored well-known designers on grading and shaping, The longer I worked behind the scenes, the clearer it became that what I’d figured out wasn’t being taught anywhere.
Makers shouldn’t be limited to only buying from certain designers with the exact same body shape as them in the hopes that one will fit.
Makers needed the missing piece that makes the patterns they already love work for their actual body.

That’s what The Perfect Fit Framework™ is. A system that brings together what I’ve learned from sewing, garment construction, and professional pattern grading, specifically tailored to crochet.
It teaches you how to work with existing size charts instead of against them, so the next garment you make will be one you actually wear.

Having a fuller bust or different proportions shouldn’t mean settling for shapeless garments or dark colours to disappear behind. You deserve to create garments that you reach for again and again, instead of ones that stay folded up at the back of your wardrobe gathering dust.

Why it Works

Once you can see how a pattern is constructed, you can see exactly where it’s making assumptions about your measurements.

Some assumptions might fit you. Some definitely won’t.

FAQs

A: You have instant and lifetime access to The Perfect Fit Crochet Framework course, including any future updates, modules or new patterns added after your enrollment. Go at your own pace, and take as much time as you need! It will always be here.

A: Over the course of 4 modules, (Fit Foundations, Decoding Designs, De-Mystifying Modifications, and Clear & Confident Adjustments) you’ll learn how to understand size charts, standard measurements, assess any crochet pattern for fit, and make precise adjustments to bust, waist and hip areas. You’ll leave with a clear and repeatable framework for creating garments that look tailor-made every time.

A: Not at all. This course is designed for crocheters of all levels who can follow a written pattern, and understand beginner-level stitches. You can revisit any module at any time, so you can learn at your own pace with no pressure. Don’t forget you can join the Facebook group to ask any questions too!

A: If you’ve ever followed a pattern with modifications, you’ll know how valuable these instructions are. But while a designer can show you how to add width or length, this course helps you understand which one you actually need, and where. This course is the missing link between a beautifully designed pattern, and a custom-made garment for your body shape.

A: Due to the nature of the digital product and instant access, no refunds are offered for the Perfect Fit Framework. This course is designed to work for anyone willing to go through the trainings and follow the steps to apply what they’ve learned. The included community ensures you’ll have plenty of support every step of the way and can ask me any question you have. Individual outcomes and timelines will vary based on your own implementation.

A: Clicking on any of the purple buttons above will take you to the course checkout page, where you can enroll.
Once your enrollment is complete, you’ll receive an email from Tales of Knots with your login details for the course portal, hosted on Thrivecart.com. Here you’ll be prompted to set up a password for your account if you haven’t already. (You will never be asked to pay anything additional; if you’re on a screen asking for payment for Thrivecart you’re in the wrong place!) You can also click the ‘access your products’ link directly on the confirmation page. All bonuses will be available to view or download from within your course portal with the exception of the monthly giveaway, which will be held in the private Facebook group and via email.

A: No, you’ll only need the crochet hook and yarn you would normally use for your preferred garment patterns to practice the techniques, along with a flexible tape measure in order to take your own measurements. For the included crochet pattern, Perfect Fit Tee, the yarn used is Swish DK from We Crochet and the yarn quantities and sizing details will be given once inside the course.

A: Absolutely! While we focus on tops, sweaters, and fitted garments, the principles of shaping, gauge and ease can be applied to most other crochet projects. In addition, this framework is designed to be flexible, covering different construction methods and works with crochet patterns from any source. You’ll learn to adapt them for your unique body shape with confidence.

A: Whilst I have seen courses that teach designers how to grade patterns according to standard size charts, (with time-limited access and no opportunity to ask questions and get feedback!) I have not yet seen any other course out there specifically teaching makers how to customise existing patterns for their unique body shape. This framework is built around REAL bodies, not sample sizes. By teaching you how to analyse patterns, adjust for shaping and apply techniques confidently, you’ll gain control of your garment fit that no one pattern alone can offer.

A: Any questions about accessing your online portal or course materials can be sent to learn@talesofknots.com. Don’t forget you’ll also have access to a private Facebook community where you can ask questions, share wins, and get guidance from both myself and fellow students.
