Indie Design Gift-A-Long 2025: Join The Fun!
The Indie Design Gift-A-Long is here again for another year, and if you love crocheting or knitting your way through the holiday season, you are going to want to jump in!
Now in its 13th year, the Ravelry Indie Design Gift-A-Long (GAL) is a fun-filled, six-week celebration of independent designers, holiday crafting, and a community spirit that brings all types of makers together. Whether you’re making presents for everyone on your list, treating yourself to a few cosy makes, or just want to spend time with fellow yarn lovers, this annual event is the perfect way to kick off the festive season.
What is the Indie Design Gift-A-Long?
What exactly is a GAL? Essentially, the Indie Design Gift-A-Long is a massive Knit-A-long/Crochet-A-long hosted on Ravelry every November/December. This year the community group on Ravelry has reached over 17,000 makers!
Over 200 independent designers come together to offer special discounts on selected patterns, and to help crafters tackle their holiday projects with excitement and support.
Patterns for Sale – Finished for 2025
Please Note: The sale portion of the 2025 GAL has now finished, however all of the Make-A-Longs are still available to join!
From November 20 at 5pm through November 26 at 11:59pm (EST), participating designers will have a special discount of 25% off select patterns for all makers who want to join the fun. All you need to do is add any of those patterns to your Ravelry cart during the sale window, and enter the code giftalong2025 at checkout. The discount is applied automatically.
To help know which patterns are on sale, each participating designer will have a featured bundle at the top of their designer page on Ravelry, with the title of ‘Gift-A-Long 2025‘.
Join the Make-A-Longs
But the sales are only the beginning. The real heart of the event spans nearly six weeks, from November 20 to December 31. During this time the Gift-A-Long group on Ravelry hosts eight different make-alongs for every type of handmade project. Socks, toys, home items, sweaters, shawls, and accessories are all included!
If you’re making something from a participating designer, you can join the appropriate thread by posting the pattern you’re working on and linking to it. Once you’re in, you’ll have community support, motivation, the chance to interact with the designers themselves, and the chance to win some exciting prizes! Pattern giveaways, craft-themed goodies, and other surprises are all waiting for you inside, just make sure you join the Ravelry group to be eligible.
Discover New Designers
One of the best parts of the Gift-A-Long is the incredible variety of indie designers involved. Whether your vibe is classic, bold, whimsical, or modern, there will be new designers to discover and new patterns to get obsessed with! Browsing the designer list and looking through the huge bundle of sale patterns is all part of the fun, and many crafters use the Gift-A-Long to discover new favourite designers they continue to follow long after the holidays are over.
If you’ve never taken part before, the atmosphere is warm, chatty, and welcoming. Some crafters go all-in with ambitious gift lists, while others stitch along a little more calmly with just one project. Whatever your speed, there’s a space for you!
You can join every Knit-A-Long/Crochet-A-Long or just one. You can take part in games, hang out in the discussions, or simply use the group chats to make new friends.
