The lead up to Christmas is arguably the busiest time of any crafter’s year! Whether you’re making for yourself, friends and family, festive markets, teacher gifts… the hunt to find fun new patterns each year can be exhausting! The extremely talented designer behind Fosbas Designs, Susanna, has put together the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop* filled with specially curated items that are perfect for the gift giving season!
Unfortunately this Blog Hop is no longer active, but the PDF pattern for the Lochside Tunisian Modern Plaid Cowl can still be purchased from Ravelry.

The Yarn
To create the most snuggly and comfy cowl ever, I returned to one of my absolute favourite bulky yarns; the gorgeously soft Wonderfluff, generously provided by We Crochet for this design.
As the name suggests, it is wonderfully fluffy! ‘Softer than a kitten, fluffier than a cloud’ is the tagline, and I can testify to just how true that is! It’s a blend of baby alpaca and merino wool fibres, blown into a tube of nylon mesh, and the end result is soft, beautifully warm, and airy. The construction gives it a halo you might normally associate with mohair, but unlike that sometimes-difficult yarn, Wonderfluff ‘frogs’ really easily, should you ever need to!
Tunisian Crochet
If you’re looking to expand on your Tunisian skills, then this modern plaid cowl is the perfect accessory to work up featuring a combination of some easy stitches and techniques but incorporating a Tunisian Brim and a deceptively simple drawstring closure!
If you’ve never picked up a Tunisian hook before however, I recommend beginning with the Inglenook Cowl; a completely beginner-friendly pattern featuring those same easy-to-learn stitches with full photo tutorials each step of the way.
This pattern is worked both in rows and in the round, which means you’ll need both a straight hook with a cable and stopper, and a double ended Tunisian hook. Alternatively you can use an interchangeable set with a variety of sizes and stoppers. Check out some of my favourites below, all available from Amazon:
